Renting a hanbok for a palace visit: what the shop did not tell me

Free palace entry with a hanbok, but only if it counts. Sizes, the two-hour clock, and the shoes question.

Renting a hanbok for a palace visit: what the shop did not tell me (sample graphic)
Sample graphic made for the layout check. Not a photograph.

Wearing a hanbok gets you into the palace for free, which every rental shop mentions. Here is what they did not.

It has to count

The gate staff check that the hanbok is a full set. A skirt over jeans was turned away in front of me. Ask the shop for the set the palace accepts.

The two-hour clock

The basic price covers two hours from the moment you leave the shop, and the palace is a fifteen-minute walk each way. The four-hour rate was only 5,000 won more.

Shoes

Nobody mentioned shoes. The shop lends slippers that are fine on the paths and terrible on the courtyard gravel. Wear your own flat shoes and skip the slippers.

  • Sizes ran small; ask for one up.
  • Hair styling was an extra 10,000 won and worth it for the photos.
