Haeundae Gunam-ro: A Journey That Begins on the Way to the Sea

A photo guide to walking from Exit 5 of Haeundae Station along Gunam-ro to the beach, market side streets, how to check performance schedules, and map search terms for travelers.

After exiting through Exit 5, use the beach as your point of reference and the route is simple. Walk straight toward the sea along Gunam-ro, or turn into a market side street along the way and then head back toward the beach. The approximately 490-meter-long Gunam-ro Cultural Plaza offers room to pause between the station and the beach. Along a street lined with tall buildings, the wide pedestrian space in the center opens up the view, while the shop entrances and signs on either side create different scenes along the way. Near the station, check the crosswalks and pedestrian signals, and when taking photos, stay to the side so you don't block foot traffic.

Exit through Exit 3 or 5 of Haeundae Station on Busan Subway Line 2 and walk straight toward the sea. It takes about five minutes on foot. The route is simple, so first-time visitors are unlikely to get lost. During the day, the wide sidewalks, palm trees, and glimpses of the sea between buildings catch your eye, while sculptures dotted along the street naturally invite you to stop and take photos.

The market alley branches off from Gunam-ro

Haeundae Market is not in the middle of Gunam-ro; it is in a separate alley accessed via Gunam-ro 41beon-gil. The address is 22-1 Gunam-ro 41beon-gil, Haeundae-gu, Busan. Restaurants in the market serve seafood dishes such as grilled hagfish, seafood stew, and live octopus. Prices and opening hours vary by shop, so check the latest information on the day if you have a particular place in mind.

Pause for a while on performance days

On performance days, Gunam-ro becomes both a route to walk along and a small viewing space. If you want to catch a show, check the latest performance information through the Haeundae-gu Culture and Tourism information service. At the venue, it is best to leave the passage clear so the paths of spectators and pedestrians do not overlap. At the end of Gunam-ro, Haeundae Beach and the cityscape stretching along the coastline come into view all at once. Thanks to the route from the station through the shops and market side streets to the sea, you can combine a meal, a walk, and a beach visit into one continuous outing.

Practical information for first-time visitors

  • Map search terms: Gunam-ro, Haeundae Traditional Market, Haeundae Beach
  • Transportation: Exit 5 of Haeundae Station on the Busan Metro Line 2
  • Market side street: 22-1 Gunam-ro 41beon-gil, Haeundae-gu, Busan
  • Prices and opening hours: Vary by market and street business; check on the day of your visit
  • Photography: Take photos where you won't block sidewalks or store entrances
  • Attending performances: Check the latest schedule through the Haeundae-gu Culture and Tourism information service

The advantage of Gunam-ro is that the station, the route into the market, and the beach are not separate destinations but are connected by a single walk. If it's your first visit, get your bearings at Exit 5, then choose only the stops along the way based on what you want to eat and see.
